For What Remains

As flood waters recede
We see what is left,
What needs to be done,
But first we must rest.

Rest from the fear;
Rest from the pain;
Rest from the anger;
Rest from the strain.

It may be a moment,
It may be a year,
But a pause must be taken
If wisdom we’ll hear.

Time to consider;
Time to breathe deep;
Time for fresh vision;
Time still to weep.

For tears will continue
To come now and then,
But let us move forward,
Allow peace to come in.

Peace for our losses;
Peace for our gains;
Peace for tomorrow;
Peace for what remains.
