For the Joy

Who for the joy set before Him
endured the cross;
scorning it’s shame . . .
Hebrews 12:2

What joy could He hold,
To be worth such a cost?
A criminal’s death;
Hung from a cross.

What could make up for
The pain He would bear?
What would He find so
Precious and rare?

A prize worth His glory;
A treasure so bold;
He set aside all,
This jewel to hold.

We are this jewel.
He came here for us,
That through His enduring
We’d learn to trust.

We are the treasure
He’s looking to buy.
We are the reason
He chose to die.

We are the joy that
He found worth it all
When looking ahead,
He made the call.

Knowing our future
Would rest in His hands;
Knowing our one hope
Was in this plan.
