A Thousand Languages

What will it take
To reach another soul?
What will it take
To teach someone His love?

A song someone is singing,
A drum that keeps its beat,
A guitar gently strumming,
A danced stepped in the street.

A canvas with its painting,
A window with its glass,
A screen of moving images,
An icon from the past.

What will it take
To bring your neighbor in?
What will it take
To share Him with a friend?

A message that a thousand hear,
A message just for one,
Graceful hands in motion speak,
Stillness that speaks to some.

Words that come as poetry,
Words laid out in prose,
Words that lay the facts out straight,
Words set up in gold.

What will it take
To touch a heart in need?
What will it take
To plant a healthy seed?

Woven threads of tapestry,
Stories formed in clay,
Carvings plain or intricate,
Sculptures of the day.

Rooms arranged for easing
Of the mind and soul,
Works for eyes, and ears, and hands,
Pieces that make a whole.

There are a thousand languages,
Or maybe there are more,
That go beyond that words we use,
That open hidden doors,

And each of us is given
Some for our very own,
To nurture as we find them
And so lead each other home.
